Myra M. Rand Summer Leadership Workshop Scholarship
Myra Rand came to student council when her sons were in high school. They both attended the National Association of Student Councils Conference and the Mars Hill Summer Workshop. She often commented that their success in later life could be attributed to their participation in these events. Later in her teaching career she taught in a middle school and became the student council adviser there. She helped her students develop their leadership skills by taking them to the Middle Level Workshop, the NCASC State Convention, and the Summer Leadership Workshop at Mars Hill. After retiring, she continued to support the summer workshop by leading skill shop sessions and serving as the Adviser Host. Myra passed away on Friday, July 12, the last day of the 2019 Summer Workshop after fighting cancer for several years. To honor the memory of Myra Rand and her strong convictions about the value of the summer workshop, the NCASC has established the Myra M. Rand Summer Leadership Workshop Scholarship. The purpose is to provide for deserving students who otherwise would be unable to attend due to financial reasons.
